Professor Marino's blog: MMC 1000 update -- week of Nov. 21-27

romarino:

This week’s topic will coincide with your readings of the media ethics chapter.

Several professions (attorneys, physicians) have strict licensing requirements. In order to practice in either of those fields, you must undergo several additional years of education and then pass a licensing or…

This is almost a yes and no answer. A part of me would like to say that journalists should go through the same scrutiny as physicians or lawyers because it would really prove who is dedicated and who really wants to understand media law and what everything is all about.

At the same time, I want to say no because I believe that journalism is something any one should be able to freely do.

The minimum requirements for a journalist should be something along the lines of a decent education in that field. Also, I think that aspiring journalist should have to pick up an internship, that way they could really see if it is a career they want to approach.

I would love it if a “professional journalist” title was created because not only would it receive more respect, but journalist would have the opportunity to make more money.
